Blueleaf Care, the nationwide business that helps care homes deliver better outcomes, has chosen the Alzheimer’s Society as its 2025 Charity of the Year and will provide fundraising support throughout the year with a range of activities by staff, including a 26-mile charity trek along the rugged Northumberland coastline.

The Alzheimer’s Society is a natural choice for Blueleaf’s charity this year and reflects Blueleaf’s shared goal of delivering better outcomes for care home residents. The charity provides expert advice to carers and those living with dementia, funds and campaigns for more government-funded research into better treatment, diagnosis, innovation, and care. And since dementia is the main reason people move into residential care, and some 70% of residents live with dementia or severe memory problems, supporting those with Alzheimer’s has always been important to Blueleaf.

All Blueleaf staff are Dementia Friends certified, an initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society, and along with providing the products and services that care homes need to give high-quality care for residents living with dementia, Blueleaf also publishes advice on inclusive interior design, continence and wound pressure care to enable residents to live as independently as possible for as long as possible and with dignity.

Blueleaf Care’s CEO, Nick Frogbrook, and its Sales & Marketing Director, Ellen Brown, will ensure a range of fundraising activities and support are provided throughout the year. All Blueleaf staff are also given three charity days, which they can use across the year to support The Alzheimer’s Society, or another charity of their choice.

Castleford Depot Manager, Nicola Wood, and Castleford Depot Shift Supervisor, Darrel Watson have already volunteered to trek 26-miles from the iconic Bamburgh Castle to the historic town of Alnwick in Northumberland. Organised by The Alzheimer’s Society, the route’s stunning cliffs, coastal paths, and countryside will provide a beautiful backdrop for this physically and emotionally gruelling challenge. Supporters are already donating to this worthwhile cause through Nicola and Darrel’s Just Giving page here: Nicola Wood & Darrel Watson TREK-26 Challenge Fundraising Page

This is just one of many fundraising activities being planned: a newly formed running club for Blueleaf staff will take part in sponsored fun runs or even marathons. Other members of staff will host barbeques, bake-offs and other events to raise money throughout the year.

Ellen says: “The Alzheimer’s Society does such great work raising awareness and building support for new ways of caring for and treating some of the most vulnerable in our society. We work closely with care homes in communities across the country and over the years have seen how the Society has helped improve the quality of care. We are proud to be fundraising to ultimately support our elderly to live life with dignity is something very dear to our hearts.”

Nick is equally enthusiastic about the collaboration: It is a special kind of person who chooses to care for others. They are extraordinary and make a significant difference in the lives of people living with dementia, helping them to live socially active lives in a safe and caring environment for as long as they are able. We are here to support those providing care and positively impact the lives of residents and family members.”
